September Meeting: Getting Students Excited about Space

Selene Willis will be giving a talk entitled “Getting Students Excited about Space.” Selene has been a formal science educator for 15 years in public and independent middle and high schools. She spent the last year as the Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow at NASA, focusing on equity, inclusion, and broadening participation of STEM education for Science Activation projects within NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. She is currently the new deputy director at The Ingenuity Project in Baltimore, MD.
Selene holds a BS in biochemistry from Virginia Tech and a MEd from Pace University. Selene is in the final stages of her doctoral degree in science curriculum and instruction at the University of South Florida. Her research examines the use of justice-centered science pedagogy and curriculum development as a path to student critical consciousness.
This event is free and open to the public. It will be held at the Greenbelt Community Center and live streamed on Zoom. We will gather for informal chat at 7:00 pm. Selene will begin her talk at 7:30 pm.
